Starting out as the bassist and leash vocalist for English hard rockers Trapeze (which evolved from British soulsters the News) in 1969, Glenn Hughes achieved his sterling celebrity as the bass participant of Deep Purple from 1974 until the mathematical group split in 1976. Hughes later reconvened Trapeze (with no records resulting) and issued his solo debut, Play Me Out, in 1978. His side by side exploit, recorded with guitar player Pat Thrall under the list Hughes/Thrall, appeared in 1983, and worked in the supergroup Phenomena in 1985. Hughes and then joined Black Sabbath as lead story isaac Merrit Singer for 1986's The Seventh Star, departing later that record album and finally surfacing with -- of all artists -- the techno/house group the KLF, performing on their 1991 single "America -- What Time Is Love?." In 1993, Mike Varney's Shrapnel label issued the novel Hughes solo album Megrims, on which he played bass contribution and sang with an array of guest guitarists. A cosmic string of solo releases followed through the '90s, including 1995's Burning Japan Live, 1997's Addiction (which addressed some of the personal problems that had unbroken Hughes out of recording for about of the latter half of the '80s), and 1999's The Way It Is. Mid-2000 saw the discharge of Return to Crystal Karma and Feel. The bluesy Building the Machine off the shelves in 2001 while 2002's Hughes Turner Project coupled the bassist with some other Deep Purple alumni, Joe Lynn Turner. Songs in the Key of Rock appeared in 2003, followed by Soul Mover in 2005.

Swedish trine Revlon 9 ar a Scandinavian addition to the postmillennial electroclash/new wave resurgence retro-futurist scene, updating the synth rock 'n' wheel of the recent '70s and late '80s with a magpie-like modern attitude that includes influences ranging from Giorgio Moroder-style Euro-disco to the clattering rudeness of the no wave bands. Maria Eilersen (vocals and guitar), Asa Cerderqvist (vocals and synthesist), and Nandor Hegedüs (former leash singer of the Swedish pop mathematical group Brick, here acting sea bass) formed Revlon 9 in 1998, primitively with a fourth appendage acting drums. When the drummer left, the left over three integrated a metal drum automobile into the batting monastic order and began moving into a more electronic, dance-oriented dash. Three vinyl radical singles followed on belittled Scandinavian labels: 1999's "On the Roof," 2000's "Sharks," and 2003's "Someone Like You," an early variation of a vocal that would get a high spot of their first album. Starting in 2004, the trio changed the spelling of its mention to Revl9n, although it's inactive marked "Revlon Nine." (It tin can be fictive this was a sop to the transnational cosmetics companionship.) Following trio more buzz-building singles in 2004 and 2005, "Joined," "Walking Machines," and the newfangled variation of "Individual Like You," Revl9n signed to WEA International for their self-titled debut album, released in 2006.

Though Mac McCaughan has muckle to keep him fussy -- playing in Superchunk, managing the successful Merge Records -- he likewise spends time recording as Portastatic. With a variable batting order, the side-project has recorded two albums and respective singles since 1993, when Tom Sharpling of 18 Wheeler Records asked McCaughan to button some of his lo-fi, four-track recordings; he obliged with the singles "Sandals with White Socks" and "Freshman." Then in 1994, McCaughan released an intact Portastatic album, I Hope Your Heart Is Not Brittle. The radical followed with the Scrapbook EP and a minute album, Irksome Note from a Sinking Ship. Nature of a Sap appeared in 1997. 2000's EP De Mel, De Melao paid margaret Court to authoritative Brazilian artists like Caetano Veloso and Arnaldo Baptista. In 2001, McCaughan returned with Looking for Leonard, the sexual conquest to a film written and directed by Superchunk fans Matt Bissonette and Steven Clark. The uncut Summer of the Shark was released in 2003, only non before some other circumscribed edition undivided (2002's The Perfect Little Door).

Expanding Fields Of Vision - New Virtual Reality Goggles Create An Equal Opportunity Eye Test

Visual theater of operations tests are widely victimized by eye doctors and neurologists. By determining the health of the retina, optic face and the visual pathway throughout the brain, the test bum uncover glaucoma and conditions such as optic neuritis or head damage. Essential to undergo before ane can ram a cable car or fly a sheet, the ocular field test is besides used to pinpoint neurologic damage after an accident or surgery.

Today's visual field try is hard to pass, especially among those wHO need it the most. Sitting at the machine with the chin propped up on a shelf, a patient must fix their eye at a target and then at the same time press a button when stimulated with light. "The test is uncomfortable, non entirely exact, and hard for the elderly, children and people with disabilities," says Dr. Arieh S. Solomon, Head of Experimental Ophthalmology at Tel Aviv University's Maurice and Gabriela Goldschleger Eye Research Institute, Sackler Faculty of Medicine.

As an eye research doctor, Dr. Solomon thought there could be a better solution and has recently developed a discovery technology -- a ocular field quiz that comes in a compact device worn over the eyes as goggles, and which solves the limitations of the current standard test.

A Visual Improvement

The new Tel Aviv University-developed device -- the VIP Virtual Perimetry -- removes the physical limitations of the traditional bulky machine used today. The new device is able-bodied to instantly study and measure a patient's inborn reflex, when presented with a visual stimulant. Equally exciting, the new device removes previously high school rates of false negatives and positives answers, says Dr. Solomon, who integrated three technologies to make grow the VIP goggles.

"Past the age of 60, every soul has to go for this test every two years before renewing their driver's licence," he says. "People bore from it quickly and it reports false information on a large number of people who are unable to sit still in the machine," he adds. The new cost-efficient goggle twist can be connected and used anywhere there is a reckoner hook-up, regular in development countries, or at a patient's bedside while under care.
Endorsed by International Eye Doctors

Patented by Ramot, the technology change arm of Tel Aviv University, the VIP was created and tested in a clinical setting by the Israeli company Iview Ltd. It could be ready for commercialization in the U.S. within a year, if given the right financial backing, says Dr. Solomon, who also received reinforcement from the Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Trade and Industry to develop the device.
The VIP has been tested on eye doctors who take given it rave reviews during the annual group meeting of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), an international organization. "The VIP was appreciated by all of the doctors who wanted to test it for themselves. They know the problems with the current visual field test and welcome a new solution," concludes Dr. Solomon.

Scott Storch - Storch Wanted By Police

Producer SCOTT STORCH is wanted by Florida authorities over his spiralling debt problems - they've issued an arrest warrant for the star after he failed to show for a recent child support court hearing.

The Lean Back beatmaker is currently being sued by his ex-girlfriend Dalene Daniel for late child support payments for their son Jalen, two.

The two parties were due to appear at a court in Miami-Dade earlier this month (Jun08), but Storch didn't turn up.

And his no-show has prompted Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Marc Schumacher to issue a pick-up order, giving cops the permission to arrest and jail the star until he can be brought to court.

The order, known as a "writ of bodily attachment", reads: "You are hereby commanded to take into your custody Scott Spencer Storch."

Meanwhile, Storch has also been hit with another paternity suit. Vanessa Bellido claims Storch is the "natural father" of her 16-year-old son Steven Brandon Bellido. She alleges Storch accepted he was his son and sent money voluntarily to help them cope.

However, the payments stopped in January (08) and now Bellido is struggling to make ends meet.

But Storch's lawyer, Guy Spielgelman, insists the producer is refinancing his home to try and settle his financial shortfalls.

He says, "'He intends to honour all of his obligations. He was a victim of mismanagement of his business enterprises, resulting in his current predicament.''

Storch, who has worked with the likes of Jay-Z, Beyonce Knowles, Mariah Carey and Dr. Dre, has been plagued by rumours of financial difficulty for months.

He is also alleged to have fallen two years behind on property taxes amounting to $511,839 (GBP255,919) for his $10.5 million (GBP5.25 million) home on Palm Island in Miami Beach, and back in February (08), he was ordered to pay back more than $500,000 (GBP250,000) to a record label boss after reneging on a loan deal.

Lichens was the solo improv project of Chicago composer Robert Lowe, antecedently known as the bassist with artistry stone combo 90 Day Men. A product of the Kansas City country, Lowe signed on with 90 Day Men in 1996, only prior to their relocation from St. Louis to Chicago; when the grouping went on hiatus following a European circuit supporting its 2004 disc Panda Park, Lowe channeled his energies into his long-simmering solo pursuits, appearance as Lichens at that summer's Arthur magazine-sponsored Million Tongues Festival and self-releasing a limited edition CD-R, R. Brown. Looping wordless vocals and avant-folk fingerpicking to create otherworldly sheets of deep-listening drone pipe, Lowe before long charmed the attention of Kranky Records co-owner Bruce Adams, and in the autumn of 2005 the tag released Lichens' official debut, The Psychic Nature of Being.
